On the lookout for your next commercial vehicle but still questioning whether you should buy a new or used one? Then this blog is for you! Here are 7 reasons to choose a used vehicle instead of a new one.
#1 – It saves you money
This might be an obvious reason but that doesn’t make it less truthful. Buying a brand new vehicle could cost a lot of money. Choosing a used one instead will save you money which you could use for upgrading or maintaining the vehicle.
#2 – Directly available
As you might have seen in the news, the commercial vehicle industry is struggling with a shortage of chips due to COVID-19. Therefore, the delivery time of new trucks has gone up fast. You could avoid these longer delivery times by choosing a used truck. These are directly available and ready to hit the road (again) when you are.
#3 – Used is not the same as old
Most people believe that 'used' can directly be associated with the word 'old'. However, this is not always true. Even though there are a lot of older used trucks for sale most of the inventory consists of trucks from just under ten years old. And if you’re lucky enough, you might find one that is almost brand new.
#4 – You know exactly what you buy
When a new truck series is announced, most of the information about the vehicles comes from the brand itself, which is not autonomous. As time passes, it becomes more likely for customers to have bought these vehicles. This increases the chance of independent reviews which gives you a lot more detailed information about the pros and cons of the vehicle. The same goes for used vehicles. As these are (slightly) older, more autonomous information can be found online. This makes it easier to decide whether a vehicle passes your wishes or not.
#5 – More eco-friendly (in most cases)
Even though the commercial vehicle industry isn’t commonly known for its eco-friendliness (we’re making a lot of progress though), buying a used vehicle is often a more eco-friendly option than buying a new one. The production of a new vehicle releases emissions that have already been produced for a used one. However, in the long term, it doesn’t only depend on these production emissions. But also on, for example, the fuel consumption of the vehicle.
#6 – Easier to get (cheaper) parts
You could not only save money on the sales price but choosing a used one could also save you real money in maintenance costs. If you decide to choose a popular brand, it is likely that more manufacturers produce parts for your vehicle, including the cheaper brands. This also makes it easier for you to keep your vehicle in good condition.
#7 – Less diminished value
As with cars, the moment you hit the gas in your brand new truck, its value decreases. Research shows us that it diminishes with an average of 20 per cent. When choosing a used truck, you already save the money you would ‘lose’ from the value reduction.
