DAF tractor units are available in different configurations and with different Euro standards. The most popular and widely used tractor units are DAF tractor units with Euro 6, as they also have the cleanest engine. Most DAF tractor units for sale have a 4x2 configuration. For heavier transports, for example, you can choose a DAF tractor unit with a 4x4, 6x2, 6x4, 6x6 or 8x4 axle configuration. More axles can carry a heavier load because the load is distributed over several (driven) axles. Other tractor unit accessories include a retarder or DAF parking cooler.
Since 1985, DAF has been building the so-called Space Cab cabs that, thanks to a raised roof and enlarged cab, provide a lot of comfort to the driver. Thanks to the Space Cab, the driver is provided with extra space and the so-called driver comfort. Ten years later after the introduction of the Space Cab, DAF came out with a superlative: The Super Space Cab. In this cab, the driver has even more space, allowing him to truly live in his vehicle. Thus, there is room for a spacious bed, a large amount of storage space, and ample standing room.
The PTO, which stands for Power Take Off, is a power take-off on a tractor unit or truck. It is usually located on the gearbox or reduction gearbox, especially on tractor units and trucks, but it is also available on tractor units and other motor-driven vehicles, for example. This Power Take Off is a mechanism for the mechanical or hydraulic drive of external implements attached to the vehicle. This power transfer from the engine is used for various purposes, such as driving a crane, a tipper or a walking floor. In this way, the user of the vehicle is supported when using the attached implement.
A DAF tractor unit may be equipped with an intarder, an internal system that uses kinetic energy to utilise the heat created by the intarder, helping to slow down the gearbox. This allows the tractor unit to slow down without using the conventional braking system. Like a retarder, the intarder is attached to the gearbox or differential. The distinction from the retarder is that the intarder is integrated into the tractor unit.
In addition, a DAF tractor unit can also be equipped with a retarder. A retarder is primarily designed to slow down and works by creating resistance on the rotating parts of the tractor. It is often attached to the drive shaft, brake shafts or wheel hubs. Depending on the type, a retarder can be hydraulic or electromagnetic. This allows a tractor unit to drive safely in hilly or mountainous areas because the vehicle can be effectively braked.
Vehicles are categorised based on emission classes that determine the emission levels of vehicles within the European Union. Since 2013, only new DAF tractor units meeting the Euro 6 standard have been allowed. Tractor units that meet this standard, as well as electric tractor units, have access to environmental zones. On the other hand, vehicles covered by previous standards, such as Euro 5 and Euro 4, are no longer accepted in these zones. Tractor units with a Euro 6 engine produce, on average, 80% less nitrogen emissions than their Euro 5 counterparts. This results in the classification of vehicles into various emission classes. When purchasing, it is important to consider where the vehicle will primarily operate. Vehicles with a Euro 6 standard will generally be used more in Europe, while vehicles with lower emission classes are more likely to be destined for continents such as Africa, South America or Asia.
