A tractor is a motor vehicle used primarily in agriculture, although it is also in other sectors, such as construction, transportation and forestry. An agricultural tractor is the most common. Tractors are used for a variety of tasks, including pulling agricultural equipment such as ploughs, seeders and harvesters. The tractor can also be used to move heavy loads on farms and construction sites and perform general tasks such as mowing, ploughing and towing.
A front loader is a common attachment for tractors, which is used for loading and moving various materials, such as soil, gravel, manure and hay. A front loader allows you to lift objects just like a loader. It consists of a metal arm mounted on the front of the tractor and can be operated by hydraulic cylinders. Using hydraulic cylinders, the front loader arm can be moved up, down, forwards and backwards, plus the bucket can also be tilted. Front loader manoeuvring controls are often located in the tractor cab. These can be joysticks, levers or buttons that allow the operator to precisely control the front loader's movements.
A tractor's linkage allows various agricultural implements to be attached to the rear of the tractor. The linkage allows for many applications and supports a variety of agricultural tasks, such as ploughing, seeding and planting, mowing, harvesting, and transporting crops or materials. The machines can be lifted by means of the lifting device and top bar. The top bar is available in 2 types: mechanical and hydraulic. Mounting a machine to a tractor is always done in a triangle, also called a three-point configuration. There are different categories of linkages, which are often written on the hook of the linkage or top bar. It is important to look at the category because machines behind the tractor must also have the correct category. Category 1 is often seen on small tractors up to 70hp, category 2 applies to most 4-cylinder tractors, category 3 is the most common category on 6-cylinder tractors, and category 4/5 is only seen on tractors of 400hp and above.
A PTO is a rotating shaft used to transfer mechanical energy from the tractor to attachments or machinery connected to the front or rear of the tractor. It is often used to power agricultural equipment such as mowers, shredders and balers. The speed of the PTO is adjustable in different RPMs. The most common revs are 540, 540Eco, 750, 1000 and 1000Eco RPM. This can be accelerated from the cabin. The front PTO is only available in 1 speed, which is 1,000 RPM.
The most common engines in tractors are 3, 4 and 6-cylinder engines. Tractors with 75hp have 3-cylinder engines, those with 75hp to about 180hp have 4-cylinder engines, and those with 150hp to about 400hp have 6-cylinder engines. Since 2014, tractors must meet emissions requirements. This is called the Tier standard. Tier 2, 3, 4, and 5 of 2014 are often tractors equipped with AdBlue. However, this depends on the type of the engine. Well-known engine brands in tractors include DPS (John Deere), FTP (Iveco), Deutz-Fahr and MAN. In addition, the most common number of gears are 10x10, 16x16, 19x6, 20x20 and 32x32.
GPS is a common option on tractors. GPS allows you to see where you are driving on a plot and whether you are driving straight via a satellite. You can link machines behind the tractor to a GPS system, helping to work more efficiently. This saves the driver time and money. There are several GPS systems available, namely self-steering or automatic steering. Self-steering does not require an expensive system, but it is often not very accurate. The accuracy is then about 20cm. Don't you want to steer yourself? Then you can also choose between several other options, which are often accurate to 10cm or 2cm. At 2cm, a subscription is often added. With a GPS system, you need a screen, antenna and steering motor. Some tractors are prepared for a GPS. On these tractors, the wiring and software are already factory installed. You then only need an antenna and a license from the manufacturer. These can also be requested afterwards. Any tractor can be equipped with a GPS.
